Bohuslän Big Band is a contemporary orchestra that both preserves and challenges the big band genre. Fearless and exploratory, we enter into collaborations with breadth and great variety, for audiences both large and small. We are now looking for a double-bass player. Is it you? 

About the workplace 

Since 2004, the Bohuslän Big Band has been linked to Vara Concert Hall. We are financed by the Västra Götaland region and the mission consists of developing and spreading big band music to the region's residents, as well as an artistically leading big band nationally and internationally. Bohuslän Big Band constantly works for artistic development through collaborations with Swedish and artists from abroad. At the same time, diversity, equality and children & youth are prioritized areas. 

Bohuslän Big Band is a professional big band based in Västra Götaland, which tours extensively in the region as well as nationally and internationally. Bohuslän Big Band collaborates regularly with well-known national and international jazz musicians, arrangers and composers such as Maria Schneider, Vince Mendoza, Joe Lovano, Danilo Peréz, Carla Bley, John Beasley, Nils Landgren and popular artists such as Jill Johnson, The Mamas, Samuel Ljungblahd and many more. 

We also have extensive activities aimed at children and young people, with children's concerts on tour and with collaborations with culture schools, music high schools and music colleges. The Next Generation Big Band is part of the orchestra's activities through our mentorship program. 

Job duties 

The duties include rehearsing, touring with a large number of productions per year and participating in both album recordings as well as radio and television broadcasts. As a musician in Bohuslän Big Band, you work with the youth big band Next Generation Big Band and other activities aimed at children and youth. In addition, joint activities and meetings with other staff members within the business are included. 

Qualifications 

We are looking for someone who has experience playing the double bass in a larger jazz ensemble and/or big band. You should also be able to play the electric bass and be familiar with playing improvised solos. As a person you are curious, open and driven to develop musically and interested in working with/playing for children and young people. It is merited if you have experience in writing arrangements and composing your own music. 

Employment facts 

The position is a full-time permanent position with a 6-month trial period. The position is located at Pedagogen Park in Mölndal, Sweden. Employer is Vara Concert Hall. Employment start by mutual agreement.
